Disney has come under fire this week for the editing of one of its films, 2002’s “Lilo and Stitch,” on the Disney+ streaming service.
In the theatrical version, a scene features Nani getting angry with Lilo and chases her around the house until they get into the laundry room. In the original version of the movie, Lilo hops into the tumble dryer to hide.
In the Disney+ version, the dryer has become a table with a large cavity underneath with Lilo using an empty pizza box to hide. The move was obviously done to stop children trying to copy Lilo and hide out in a dryer which could be very dangerous.
The film already underwent changes almost two decades ago whilst in production in 2001, an action scene changed from a hijacked jet over downtown Honolulu to a hijacked alien ship over a mountainous region due to concerns in the wake of 9/11.
Disney+ has already made headlines for censoring or altering some content such as “Saludos Amigos” removing some smoking scenes, while the service is also point blank refusing to include “Song of the South”.
