Disney Pictures has completely reshuffled its film release schedule for at least the next two years in the wake of the vast majority of cinemas in the U.S. remaining closed due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
For starters the August release of “Mulan” has been pulled, Disney removing the mega-budget epic off the release calendar and saying it is now undated. A Disney spokesperson says in a statement:
“Over the last few months, its become clear that nothing can be set in stone when it comes to how we release films during this global health crisis, and today that means pausing our release plans for Mulan as we assess how we can most effectively bring this film to audiences around the world.”
That’s not all though as all currently scheduled “Avatar” and “Star Wars” films are being delayed by a year. All said films are set for the third week of December for much of the upcoming decade.
Then there’s Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” which was set for October and has now been pulled and is currently undated
