A combination of the writer’s strike and other factors have led Disney Pictures to announce some massive sweeping changes to its release schedule – changes that are impacting multiple Marvel movies, the “Avatar” sequels, the next “Star Wars” films and. more.
One benefit of the changes is that “Deadpool 3” is moving up six months – shifting from November 8th 2024 to May 3rd 2024 – taking over the spot previously reserved for “Captain America: Brave New World”. “The Marvels” later this year has been unaffected.
Every other Marvel film, including that fourth “Captain America” film, has been delayed by several months, whilst the two new “Avengers” films have been pushed back a year.
On the “Avatar” front, the third film has been pushed back a year to December 2025. However, the fourth and fifth films have been pushed back three years each, meaning they won’t be opening until December 21st 2029 and December 19th 2031 respectively.
Next up, two upcoming “Star Wars” films have both marked out dates in May and December 2026. In addition, Fede Alvarez’s “Alien” film has set an August 2024 release, and the live-action “Moana” has moved up a week to late June 2025.
The new schedule is as follows:
The Marvels – November 10th 2023
Deadpool 3 – May 3rd 2024

New “Alien” Film – August 16th 2024
