Disney is shaking up its release calendar, pushing several titles but keeping two key ones in place.
Marvel Studios is effectively pushing its timeline back a year from its original planned release. As 2020 kicked off, “Black Widow” was to arrive in May this year followed by “Eternals” in November.
Now, both already several month delayed projects have been pushed back at least another six months and so will now arrive on May 7th 2021 and November 5th 2021 respectively.
They won’t be the only Marvel releases though as “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” is remaining in 2021 but has been delayed two months to July 9th 2021.
Then there’s Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” musical which is being delayed almost an entire year, moving from December 18th to December 10th 2021.
Next, Disney relocating 20th Century Studios’ “Death on the Nile” from an October 23rd berth to a December 18th Christmas release this year. “The King’s Man” is moving up two weeks to February 12th 2021, “The Empty Man” is taking the old ‘Nile’ October 23rd slot, and the Ben Affleck-led “Deep Water” has been delayed ten months to August 13th 2021.
For now, the studio is keeping “Soul” on November 20th and “Free Guy” on December 11th precisely where they are. The shift also didn’t announce any plans to shift product to Disney+ or PVOD.
