Disney Closing Ice Age Makers Blue Sky

The Walt Disney Company is set to close “Ice Age” and “Rio” franchise animation production house Blue Sky Studios after thirty-three years in the business.

Disney inherited the company, which also produced “Horton Hears a Who” and “Spies in Disguise,” in its 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

About 450 employees staffing the company will face termination, though some are said to be eyeing roles at other Disney silos like Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar.

The “Ice Age” franchise has grossed close to $3 billion worldwide while the “Rio” films have grossed close to $1 billion worldwide. Blue Sky also worked on visual effects on films like “Alien Resurrection” and “Fight Club”.
