Disney Cancels “National Treasure” Series

Disney Pictures

Disney+ has decided not to renew its adventure series “National Treasure: Edge of History” for a second season – effectively cancelling the series.

It joins a list of non-Marvel and Star Wars original series that have been cancelled after one or two seasons on the service, including “Big Shot,” “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” “Mysterious Benedict Society,” “Diary of A Future President” and “Turner & Hooch”.

The series followed young heroine Jess (Lisette Olivera) – a DREAMer in search of answers about her family – who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about the past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.

Justin Bartha, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, Lyndon Smith, Harvey Keitel and Catherine Zeta-Jones starred in the series, which was executive produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jon Turteltaub and writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley.

Reviews were poor, with just a 38% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 46/100 on Metacritic. Ratings weren’t likely as high as hoped by Disney standards, with Whip Media indicating the show hovered at the bottom of the weekly top 10 most streamed TV series across all platforms in the United States at the time of release – though it did manage to come in at #4 at one point.
