Disney: “Ahsoka” Debut Scored 14M Viewers

In the wake of a third-party analytics firm indicating “Ahsoka” premiered to numbers comparable to “Andor,” Disney has gone the unusual step of announcing the actual viewing numbers for the new show’s premiere episode.

According to a press release from the Disney+ service, the Rosario Dawson-led series racked up 14 million views worldwide in the five days after its August 23rd debut.

To calculate that figure, Disney+ is reportedly using the same methodology Netflix has employed for the past few months – taking the total viewing time and dividing it by the episode or show’s run time.

In this case, that would be around 784 million minutes of viewing worldwide for the 56-minute premiere. It doesn’t account for multiple people watching the show together though which would count as a single ‘view’.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement:

“Ahsoka has become a fan favorite with people of all ages, and it’s wonderful to see her continue to resonate with viewers in her very own headlining series. I want to recognize the fantastic work done by our creative team, led by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, the incredible cast led by Rosario Dawson, and our talented crew — and on behalf of the team and all of Lucasfilm, we give our thanks to all the fans who have been with Ahsoka on every step of her journey and to all those who are just learning about her now in Ahsoka on Disney+.”

Disney+ did not release any figures for the show’s second episode which proceeded immediately after. Still, this marks the first time Disney+ has released any kind of actual viewing data for one of its titles as usually the streamer only alludes to a show’s performance.
