Disney+ has acquired Constantin Film and JB Pictures’ new film adaptation of Anna Sewell’s iconic novel “Black Beauty” with plans to premiere it on the streaming service later this year.
Already completed, this is a modern retelling of the story horse born free in the American West, captured and taken away from family. Her story intertwines with that of 17-year old Jo Green (Mackenzie Foy), similarly grieving over the loss of her parents.
The two slowly develop a bond built on love, respect, and mutual healing. Kate Winslet will voice the horse’s inner voice while the film also stars Iain Glen as John Manly and Claire Forlani as Mrs. Winthorp.
Ashley Avis wrote the screenplay and directed the film which was shot last year in South Africa.
