A proposed “TRON” TV series that was in development has reportedly been scrapped.
A new feature piece in THR has gone into the Disney+ service and its struggles to identify itself, but one of the most interesting bits of information within it is a throwaway line revealing a project no-one had previously reported on.
Namely that “12 Years a Slave” writer and “American Crime” showrunner John Ridley was shepherding a TV series for the service that was set within the “TRON” universe. Said universe began with the 1982 cult classic film and was followed up with 2010’s “TRON: Legacy” sequel and the animated 2012 series “TRON: Uprising”.
Ridley reportedly set up the project through his overall ABC Studios deal, but details of what it might have been about were not disclosed. ‘Legacy’ director Joseph Kosinski had previously teased a third film, “TRON: Ascension,” which would have been an “invasion movie” with the computer characters coming out into the human world.
