20th Century Studios has set Arkasha Stevenson (“Legion,” “Briarpatch”) to direct “The First Omen,” a prequel to the iconic 1976 horror film “The Omen”.

That film and its sequels center around Damien Thorn, a young child replaced at birth by his American diplomat father, unbeknownst to his wife, after their biological child dies shortly after birth.

A series of mysterious events and violent deaths occur around the family and Damien enters childhood, they come to learn he is the prophesied Antichrist.

The film was such a success it spawned two theatrical sequels following a teenage and then adult Damian. There was also a widely panned TV movie spin-off, a big-budget 2006 remake of the first film, and a 2016 short-lived TV series reimagining.

This is expected to serve as a direct prequel to the original. Stevenson and her writing partner Tim Smith will also rewrite the script while David S. Goyer and Keith Levine are producing.
