Continuing a nearly four-decade-long relationship and with over 2,000 hours of produced television to his name, Dick Wolf has extended his overall deal at Universal Television through 2027.
Wolf currently has nine series on the air – the three “Law & Order” shows airing Thursday nights on NBC, the three “Chicago” shows airing Wednesday nights on NBC, and the three “FBI” shows airing Tuesday nights on CBS.
The result is the ratings for mid-week evenings on network television often go to Wolf, with all three “One Chicago” shows ranking in the Top 10 across all shows in Live+7, whilst two “Law and Order” shows rank in the Top 10 dramas in the key demo rating.
All three franchises regularly bring in ratings wins for NBC and CBS and are often the most-watched telecasts of their respective nights. The news comes a day after NBC renewed its six Wolf-created shows. CBS already issued two-season renewals for its “FBI” shows through 2024.
The deal extension suggests that few, if any, of these shows will be cancelled anytime soon. Wolf and Universal TV are also behind Amazon Freevee’s upcoming half-hour police drama “On Call” and are turning the podcast “Dark Woods” into a series. Several unscripted projects are also in the works.
