Deal Reached Might Save U.S. Cinemas

U.S. Senate and House leaders announced an agreement on Sunday for a nearly $900 billion COVID-19 relief package.

The package includes $15 billion of specific aid to struggling independent movie theatres and live entertainment venues. Entertainment industry trade groups have spent months pushing the proposed legislation called the Save Our Stages Act.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have confirmed that the aid package is in the final agreement. The House aims to vote on the bill on Monday, and the Senate will follow not long after.
