Electronic Arts studio Motive has officially announced that a remake of iconic 2008 video game “Dead Space” is in development, and have released a short teaser trailer showing off the title’s new look.
This isn’t a remaster, the project is being remade from the ground up and developed specifically for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and modern PCs – no older generations.
It also boasts an “improved story and characters” along with revamped gameplay mechanics. Phillippe Ducharme, senior producer on the title says:
“We have a passionate team at Motive who are approaching this remake as a love letter to the franchise. Going back to the original and having the opportunity to do so on next-gen consoles excited everyone on the team.
As we look to modernize the game, we’ve reached out to dedicated fans and invited them to provide us with feedback since the early stages of production to deliver the Dead Space game they want and for new players to enjoy as well.”
The original 2008 title follows Isaac Clarke, an engineer who boards the massive mining starship ISS Ishimura – a ‘planet cracker’ which has stopped communicating. Once onboard, you find the craft overrun with deadly multi-limbed monsters called Necromorphs which can be defeated via dismemberment.
At the same time, you struggle with a growing psychosis induced by an artifact called the Marker. The game, ranked in various lists as one of the greatest video games ever made, was famed for its sound design, atmospheric visuals, and innovative approach to various aspects from enemy placement to the HUD.
The project was announced as a part of the EA Play Live event.
