Robert De Niro is set to both star in and executive produce the crime drama series “Mr. Natural” for Entertainment One reports Variety.
De Niro will star as Louis ‘Mr. Natural’ Baron who is fresh off a thirty-year stint in federal prison. He arrives in Palm Springs driven by a dream to reunite with his stolen family and a dangerous scheme to grab a taste of the Salton Sea’s lithium billions.
Soon enough, there will be blood in the sand and bones in the desert. The project hails from “Magic City” creator Mitch Glazer who executive produces alongside De Niro along with Art and John Linson.
The project is envisioned as a multi-season series. No network or streaming platform is currently attached the project will go out to market soon.
This marks De Niro’s second TV series casting of late, the other being Netflix’s limited series “Zero Day” which is in development and hails from Eric Newman and Noah Oppenheim.
Whichever of the projects moves forward, they will mark the first regular television role of the Oscar winner who has mostly stuck to the big screen with the odd exception – such as the HBO telemovie “Wizard of Lies” for which he scored an Emmy nomination.
