DCU’s “Batman” Gets “Birds of Prey” Writer

Warner Bros. Pictures

“Birds of Prey” and “Bumblebee” writer Christina Hodson has been set to pen the script for “The Brave and The Bold,” the upcoming feature film that will introduce Batman and Robin (the Damian Wayne version) to James Gunn’s DC Universe.

The Insneider broke the news with THR then confirming it. It’s not clear how far along the project is, though sources indicate it’s expected to be some time before a draft is submitted to the studio.

Though announced alongside the other ‘Gods & Monsters’ film several years ago, finding both a writer and a take on the material that worked has been difficult.

There has also been the added complication of Matt Reeves’ non-DCU “The Batman Part II” which kept being stalled and is now finally going into production ahead of a late 2027 release.

“The Brave and The Bold” isn’t expected to premiere until well after that film opens and Warners is giving that film plenty of space to breathe.

Andy Muschietti (“The Flash,” “IT”) remains on board to direct the project, but the trade indicates his involvement depends on several factors, including timing and availability, and those are dwindling fast as he’s become more in demand.

Hodson previously penned a “Batman Beyond” feature film script that was widely praised inside the studio but sadly was never made.
