Nearly a year after they handed out a series order for it, HBO Max is selling off its DC Comics adaptation “Dead Boy Detectives” to Netflix.
The series is dubbed a fresh take on a ghost story that explores loss, grief, and death through the lens of two dead British teenagers Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri)… and their very alive friend, Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson).
“The Flight Attendant” creator Steve Yockey adapted Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner’s comic and serves as showrunner on the series to be produced by Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions. Jeremy Carver is also onboard as executive producer.
Warner Bros. Television produced the series and has opted to shop it around after the drama didn’t fit in with the new DC Studios plans by James Gunn and Peter Safran. In addition, HBO Max would not have been able to market the show until 2024 and producers wanted to go earlier.
Briana Cuoco, Yuyu Kitamura and Jenn Lyon also star in the series along with Ruth Connell who will reprise her role of Night Nurse from HBO Max’s “Doom Patrol”.
Sebastian Croft, Ty Tennant and Madalyn Horcher portrayed the main “Dead Boy Detectives” trio in a third season episode of that show, but this sounds like it will have no connection to that.
