“Dawn” Novel Trilogy Adapted For Amazon

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” second unit director Victoria Mahoney and Oscar nominee Ava DuVernay (“Selma,” “13th”) are developing “Dawn,” a new sci-fi series at Amazon and Macro Television Studios.

An adaptation of Octavia E. Butler’s 1987 novel, the story centers on an African-American woman who works with aliens to resurrect the human race 250 years after a nuclear war.

It is the first of an award-winning novel trilogy published in the late 1980s and explores themes of sexuality, gender, and race. Charles D. King, Allen Bain, Gary Pearl, and Thomas L. Carter will also executive produce.

Mahoney is also directing the pilot episode of Jordan Peele’s upcoming series “Lovecraft Country” for HBO, while DuVernay is currently shooting the pilot for the series adaptation of the comic “DMZ” for HBO Max.
