Keith David Replaces Reddick In “Destiny 2”

NBC, Bungie

Keith David will replace the late Lance Reddick as the voice of Commander Zavala in “Destiny 2”.

Bungie announced the recasting on Thursday, with David first taking on the role in the upcoming expansion release “The Final Shape”.

“John Wick,” “Bosch” and “The Wire” star Reddick died unexpectedly earlier this year. Players of “Destiny 2” honored his voice performance in the game by gathering online to salute him.

The Destiny 2 team wrote in a post on Bungie’s website: “Commander Zavala has been central to the story we have been telling since the original Destiny, and we have plans to continue his journey.”

They add that Reddick’s existing lines in the main game and prior DLC will remain untouched, so David won’t re-record any of Reddick’s existing dialogue.

David says in a statement: “I am honored to continue the great work of Lance Reddick as Zavala. Lance captured the character’s sense of integrity so wonderfully. It is my intention to continue that work.”

The game is set centuries in the future as the last of humanity survives in the Last City. Reddick also played the key character of Sylens in the “Horizon: Zero Dawn” game series which will likely recast him for its trilogy capper.
