“Stranger Things” and “Hellboy” star David Harbour has had various roles in his career, but one of his more notable recent ones was that of Red Guardian in Marvel Studios’ “Black Widow” feature.
The actor will return to the character in the upcoming “Thunderbolts” film. The ensemble feature will see supervillains and antiheroes teaming up, including Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Ghost (Hannah Jon-Kamen), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kerleynko), Yelena Belova/Black Widow (Florence Pugh), and The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).
Whilst speaking to Total Film, Harbour says he’s grown fond of the character and is excited about returning. In fact, when it comes to the future he indicates he has no issue playing the character more times if he’s asked:
“I really like him, and I love Florence [Pugh] as Yelena [also in Thunderbolts]. And then you throw in Wyatt [Russell, as U.S. Agent] from Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Sebastian [Stan, reprising Bucky Barnes]. You have all these great, colorful characters. I’m really excited for that movie.
I can’t wait to pull back the layers. The great thing about him is that he’s not very well-defined in the comics, like some of the other Marvel superheroes. So we can play with him in a different way, and be surprising and unexpected.”
Jake Schreier directs the project, which is also expected to star Harrison Ford as Secretary Thaddeus Ross and is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 26th 2024.
