A few years ago, back when Lucasfilm was scrambling to find a director for “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” one unexpected potential name that came up was none other than “Se7en” and “The Game” director David Fincher.

Unsurprisingly, he didn’t take the gig with J.J. Abrams returning to direct the project. Nonetheless, it appears Fincher was still curious about doing a “Star Wars” film.

Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider page reports that Fincher had an idea for a sequel to “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” which he pitched to Lucasfilm, but talks fell through because the studio wouldn’t grant Fincher final cut.

In terms of actual details about Fincher’s scrapped project, they weren’t revealed.

The comments come hot on the heels of actor Adam Driver revealing the other day he and filmmaker Steven Soderbergh pitched their own post-Rise of Skywalker film, which would follow his Ben Solo character. Driver said Lucasfilm loved their idea, but Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman turned down the project.

Now, Sneider adds that despite this reveal, Lucasfilm reportedly had “no plans for him to return” to the “Star Wars” franchise. He indicates Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is expected to step down from her role sometime next year.

Additionally, Collider reports that a group of “Star Wars” fans have paid for a plane to fly a banner reading “Save The Hunt for Ben Solo” over Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.
