Dauberman To Direct “Salem’s Lot” Remake

“Annabelle Comes Home” helmer Gary Dauberman has closed a deal to direct the new film adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic 1975 vampire novel “Salem’s Lot” at New Line.

The 1975 novel follows a writer who returns to his hometown to write about an abandoned mansion which was just bought by a mysterious man. He soon realises that townspeople are slowly being turned into vampires, and the writer bands together with a ragtag group to stop their spread.

Dauberman was already onboard the project as screenwriter while James Wan, Roy Lee and Mark Wolper are producing. He wrote both chapters of the “IT” films and four of “The Conjuring” spin-offs.

“Salem’s Lot” was previously adapted as a telemovie by Tobe Hooper in 1979 and a mini-series starring Rob Lowe in 2004, but neither is considered a particularly definitive adaptation. Epix is currently developing a prequel series titled “Jerusalem’s Lot” which has Adrien Brody attached.
