“Daryl Dixon” Makes Big Zombie Change

AMC

The final season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” incorporated the idea of zombie variants.

One episode showed some that aren’t the slow and brainless kind that’s the norm of the franchise, but ones with some level of problem-solving intelligence, allowing them to climb and open doors.

The forthcoming spin-off series “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” will see a new variant emerge – zombies which are being dubbed ‘burners’ and seem to have an almost xenomorph-style defense mechanism.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, executive producer Greg Nicotero explains the new kind:

“These zombies have mutated to a point where if they touch or bite you or their blood gets on you, it burns you significantly. It changes all the rules.”

In the series, Daryl (Norman Reedus) washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home.

As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan. “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” is set to debut on September 10th on AMC and AMC+.
