With “Daredevil: Born Again” having just wrapped up its second season, eyes turn towards next week’s “The Punisher: One Last Kill” special.
As we know, Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/The Punisher didn’t appear in the second season of ‘Born Again’ after making short appearances within the first season. However, he will be front and center in this special and have a key role in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”.
Speaking with Variety, current “Daredevil’ showrunner Dario Scardapane explains that the decision not to have Frank return in the second season wasn’t a scheduling conflict but a creative choice on Bernthal’s part and how the special came to be:
“I know that Jon had been talking to the people at Marvel and had a very specific idea in mind about what happened to Frank after the end of the Punisher series. He came in so graciously, gratefully and wonderfully in Season 1 for a pretty eye-popping pair of scenes. So, not having Jon in Season 2 more reflects about the story he wanted to tell with the Punisher special.”
Scardapane also cleared up where ‘One Last Kill’ takes place in Marvel’s timeline, indicating it will essentially take place after the events of the second season of “The Punisher”:
“I think this tells the story of what happened next after Punisher and before and during the events of [Born Again] Season 2.”
“The Punisher: One Last Kill” is set to release on the Disney+ service on May 12th.
