Emma D’Arcy (“House of the Dragon”), Harry Lawtey (“Industry”) and Ellie Bamber (“Willow”) will join Maxine Peake, Ciaran Hinds (Belfast) and Jason Isaacs in the thriller “Anna”.
The feature focuses on world-renowned journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya (Peake), who braved the Chechen killing fields and exposed Russian state corruption under Putin.
She refused to give up reporting on the war in Chechnya despite numerous acts of intimidation and violence – including being poisoned. She was ultimately murdered in an elevator in her apartment complex.
D’Arcy plays Anna’s daughter Vera and Lawtey her son Ilya, Bamber is her intern Elena, Hinds her editor Dmitry and Isaacs her husband Sacha. Filming begins at the end of September.
