Daniel Craig To Lead Guadagnino’s “Queer”

Netflix

Former James Bond and current “Knives Out” star Daniel Craig is attached to lead “Suspiria,” “Bones and All” and “Call Me By Your Name” filmmaker Luca Guadagnino’s next feature according to Above the Line (with Deadline subsequently confirming).

The site says the film will be an adaptation of famed author William S. Burroughs’ early short novel “Queer,” a quasi-sequel to his earlier novel “Junkie”.

The story is centered around a man named Lee, who recounts his life in Mexico City among a group of American ex-pat college students and bar owners surviving on part-time jobs and GI Bill benefits.

Self-conscious and insecure, Lee is driven to pursue a young man named Allerton. Allerton was inspired by a discharged Navy serviceman from Florida who befriended Burroughs.

Steve Buscemi was slated to direct a film adaptation a decade ago, with an Oren Moverman-penned script reading conducted with Stanley Tucci and Ben Foster in the key roles. That project never came to fruition.
