“Dangerous Liasons” Axed, “Love Life” Pulled

Starz, HBO Max

It’s proving to be a bit of a blood bath on the TV front today for various series.

Starz has cancelled its new take on “Dangerous Liaisons,” reversing an early second season renewal it handed out in early November.

Whilst the network reportedly believes in the show creatively, the prequel to the famous 18th-century novel struggled to find an audience – premiering to a dismal 0.03 rating and 88,000 total viewers, with the second episode dropping a third a of that.

Thus it has understandably been axed, especially with Lionsgate monitoring costs in preparation to spin off its studio from Starz next year. The remaining three episodes of the eight-episode first season will air as scheduled.

Meanwhile, HBO Max, hot on the heels of cancelling “Minx” even though the second season was most of the way through production, has now pulled another series from its service.

The streamer is removing its first original scripted series, the Anna Kendrick and William Jackson Harper-led “Love Life,” from the service after two seasons. The removal is part of a broader financial review of the streamer’s slate resulting in a purge of a number of titles including “The Gordita Chronicles” last week and “Minx” earlier today.
