Dan Trachtenberg On His “Predator” Future

20th Century Studios

Filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg came to many people’s attention first with his short film “Portal: No Escape” and then his 2016 debut feature “10 Cloverfield Lane”.

He helmed “The Boys” pilot, was briefly linked to a “Y: The Last Man” film and the “Uncharted” film, but didn’t end up doing another film until 2022 with “Prey” – an acclaimed film that reinvigorated the “Predator” franchise over at 20th Century Studios.

Trachtenberg returned with two more “Predator” films, including the animated anthology “Predator: Killer of Killers” and last year’s theatrical release “Predator: Badlands”.

The announcement came the other day that Trachtenberg has signed a first-look directing and producing deal with Paramount, which has led to questions over his involvement in future “Predator” projects going forward.

Speaking with Screen Rant, he confirms he ain’t walking away from Predator: “Well, Predator, I’m in this zone of dreaming up more, like I said, as I had been previously.”

He adds that the Paramount deal is a “simultaneous thing” and that what determines his upcoming projects will come down to schedules as: “timing [will be] a bit of a thing.”

He said the deal with Paramount allows him the “incredible opportunity to make original things” as well as having “some very cool IP that I could now get to think about”.

“Predator: Badlands” releases on Hulu tomorrow.
