Daisy Ridley On The “Star Wars” Backlash

Daisy Ridley has earned the love and ire of “Star Wars” fans over the course of the recent trilogy.

While all the actors seemed so excited during “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” promotion in 2015, by the time “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” came around there was more obvious reluctance and relief it was over expressed in interviews with the key cast.

Ridley has remained professional throughout, and recently opened up about the negative reaction to the most recent film and the trilogy overall via an interview with Men’s Health:

“[Reaction has] changed film by film honestly, like 98% it’s so amazing, this last film it was really tricky. January was not that nice. It was weird, I felt like all of this love that we’d sort of been shown the first time around, I was like, ‘Where’s the love gone?’.

I watched the documentary, the making-of The Skywalker Legacy, this week and it’s so filled with love; and I think it’s that tricky thing of when you’re part of something that is so filled with love and then people [don’t like it]. You know, everyone’s entitled to not like something but it feels like it’s changed slightly. I think in general that’s because [of] social media and what have you.”

The “Star Wars” franchise saw negative outrage long before social media arrived with George Lucas’ prequel trilogy, while the sequel trilogy has inspired much debate about its individual chapters and the trio of films overall.
