Celebrated and massively influential French electronic music duo Daft Punk is officially calling it quits after three decades in the business.
The pair announced their retirement via an eight-minute video titled “Epilogue” posted online this morning, and subsequently, their longtime publicist confirmed the split to Variety.
The pair, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, have for many years concealed their features behind a robot concept.
Formed in 1993, the pair ultimately released four studio albums and famously one film soundtrack – 2010’s “Tron: Legacy” for which they provided the entire score. While the film’s response was mixed, their score received universal acclaim.
Their four albums – “Homework,” “Discovery,” “Human After All” and “Random Access Memories” has yielded such famed songs as “Around the World,” “Da Funk,” “One More Time,” “Get Lucky,” “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” and “Digital Love”.
Their music has been used extensively across film and television, the pair doing the occasional movie cameo along with commercials whilst their style has often been emulated. They’ve also produced music for other artists, their most recent prominent work being on The Weeknd’s “Starboy” and “I Feel it Coming” songs.
