Two time Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo (“Widows,” “Harriet,” “Bad Times at the El Royale”) is set to star in and produce a film based on the life of 19th century African princess Sarah Forbes Bonetta.

In 1850 this strong, educated black woman was taken in by Queen Victoria’s court and put at the center of British aristocracy – putting her under public scrutiny and dealing with the dangers of a capricious court.
Erivo, Solome Williams, Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland, and Rienkje Attoh will produce for BBC Film with Walter Dean Myers’ biography “At Her Majesty’s Request” optioned to help contribute to the script. Benedict Cumberbatch will executive produce.
