Game developer CD Projekt Red is teaming with Anonymous Content to develop a live-action TV series set within the universe of its “Cyberpunk 2077” game.
The series, still in the early development stages and currently seeking a screenwriter, will reportedly feature an all-new story set within the world of the original game franchise which hails from the developer behind the acclaimed “The Witcher” games.
The TV series will be developed in close collaboration with the “Cyberpunk 2077” creative team as well as key Anonymous Content Studios execs including CCO David Levine who was head of drama at HBO for over a decade where he oversaw shows like “True Detective” and “Westworld”.
The game unfolds in Night City, a megalopolis driven by power, glamour and body modification. A mercenary outlaw named V is on the search for a one-of-a-kind implant that doubles as a key to immortality.
Despite getting off to a disastrously buggy start when it launched, CD Projekt Red persevered with the open-world action-adventure which has since been fixed and is now lauded for its boundary-pushing graphics. The title has sold more than 25 million copies to date.
Both Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba play characters in the game that look like themselves, leaving open the obvious question as to whether they will appear in their roles of Johnny Silverhand and Solomon Reed respectively.
CD Projekt Red previously brought this world to television before with last year’s original anime adaptation “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” which served as a prequel to the game.
