“Cyberpunk Edgerunners II” Series Announced

CD Projekt Red

“The Witcher” and “Cyberpunk 2077” game developers CD Projekt Red have officially announced that they will re-team with animation studio Trigger for the anime series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II”.

The original ten-episode “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” anime released in 2022, serving as a prequel to the “Cyberpunk 2077” game and takes place about a year before the game’s events.

The series received critical acclaim and was originally planned as a standalone piece. Then in late 2024, Netflix Animation teased a “return to Night City” was coming in some form. Now they have taken the lid off that reveal.

The new series will be standalone, not a direct follow-up to the first season. Director Hiroyuki Imaishi is passing the torch to Kai Ikarashi for the second run, Ikarashi making his directorial debut on the work.

Hugo Award-winning writer Bartosz Sztybor, who serves as showrunner, story writer and producer, says the new series will be “a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before”.

Teaser footage from the new run is being screened at the Peacock Theater tonight following the show’s panel at Anime Expo earlier today where the reveal was announced.
