“Cyberpunk 2077” Sequel In Pre-Production

CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt has confirmed that the “Cyberpunk 2077” sequel, going by the codename ‘Project Orion,’ is in the pre-production stage.

CD Projekt Red’s new North American arm in Boston and Vancouver is developing the game which is being referred to as “Cyberpunk 2” in a statement tied to the company’s recent Q1 2025 financial report. However CDPR senior PR manager Ola Sondej tells The Verge that’s NOT the official title.

The statement says: “Several weeks ago the CD Projekt Red team responsible for the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe completed the project’s conceptual phase. As a result, Cyberpunk 2 – previously known under the codename Project Orion – has progressed to pre-production.”

The company has also confirmed the game’s “Phantom Liberty” expansion has now sold more than 10 million copies. “Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition” launches on Switch 2 next month.

Also in those financial results, they confirmed that “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” has now sold over 60 million copies since its release ten years ago.

Showing just how long the tail can be of acclaimed single-player games and buoyed by both re-releases and the TV series, the game looks to have sold as many copies in Years 6-10 as it did across Years 1-5 (ie. 30 million copies each).
