CW’s “Legends” Loses A Regular For S6

With the season finale of “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” having aired last night, the episode laid the groundwork for what’s to come in the show’s sixth season including an alien threat and the loss of a key character.

First up, co-showrunner Phil Klemmer broke down the new season’s big bads – aliens that abducted Sara (Caity Lotz). He says these creatures are “totally, totally different” to the Dominators who’ve been seen in the CW DC universe before, and much of the season premiere will explain who these aliens are:

“We wanted to come up with sort of a surprising variety of them. We wanted to shape the season to lean into kind of a B-movie creature feature and low-budget 1980s [productions]. We wanted it to be kind of romp-ish.

We didn’t want our aliens, at least in the beginning, to be too complicated. We, really, were inspired by things like They Live and Mars Attacks!, things that are kind of outlandish. This season got very, very emotional, and we want to counter-balance that with something that feels like a little bit frothy and trashy, I guess.”

In addition, TV Line reports that actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers will not return for the show’s sixth season. Richardson-Sellers originally played Amaya Jiwe/Vixen in the second and third seasons, before taking on the role of the shape-shifting Charlie a.k.a. Clotho for the fourth and fifth season. Klemmer says her exit had been in the works since the premiere:

“We knew that [Maisie] was wanting to make her mark as a filmmaker on her own, and so that allowed us to craft a story that would, hopefully, make for a satisfying conclusion. The finale was sort of all about her. For me, it’s so bittersweet, bringing it back to that punk club and The Smell… The good thing is that people are allowed to come back and have come back.”

The show has been able to refresh its cast at a steady pace over the years with characters like Captain Cold, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Rip Hunter, Martin Stein, Jax, Ray Palmer/Atom and Norah Dark all exiting. The showrunners also confirm that the first version of Tala Ashe’s Zari has finished off her story and won’t return.

So the sixth season character line-up will consist of the characters of Sara Lance, Ava Sharpe, Nate Heywood, Mick Rory, John Constantine, and Zari and Behrad Tarazi. There will also be a new addition, a slightly insane woman abducted by aliens when she was a child and imbued with powers.
