CW Scraps Its New “Dark Shadows” Series

“Dark Shadows: Resurrections,” the latest planned TV incarnation of the gothic soap franchise “Dark Shadows,” has been squashed at The CW network.

TV Line reports that the series, which actually would’ve served as a continuation of the 1969-71 cult classic as opposed to a full on reboot (ala Tim Burton’s film version), has been abandoned in development and so never made it to the pilot stage.

The modern-day sequel series would follow the strange and sexy saga of the Collins family of Collinsport, Maine – a mysterious, influential, publicity-shy group who have lived for four centuries under a curse that bedevils their blueblood with every imaginable supernatural creature and horror.

Mark B. Perry was attached to write and executive produce. The CW’s predecessor, The WB, did a pilot in 2004 for a “Dark Shadows” series starring the likes of Alec Newman, Jessica Chastain, Kelly Hu, Martin Donovan, Matt Czuchry and Jenna Dewan. Burton shot a comedic riff on the property for the cinema in 2012.
