It turns out FOX’s acquisition of “L.A.’s Finest” isn’t a one-off as The CW has also snapped up rebroadcast rights to pre-existing series from a niche or international broadcaster in order to fill out their pandemic-cratered slate.
The difference here is number. FOX only snagged one, but The CW has picked up four shows from other partners and plans to broadcast them.
Those shows? DC Universe’s one season only “Swamp Thing,” both seasons of the just cancelled CBS All Access anthology thriller “Tell Me A Story,” two seasons of Canadian procedural series “Coroner,” and one season of UK comedy “Dead Pixels”. Network premiere dates for all four shows will be announced at a later date.
‘Swamp’ received solid reviews and was a passion project at the network when it was abruptly terminated partway through filming of its season finale which then had to be retooled into a series finale. That cancellation is now seen in retrospect as the first sign of WarnerMedia backing off from fully supporting the niche DC Universe in favor of consolidating its library into the larger HBO Max service.
The CW is expected to announce its Fall line-up later this week.
