Custom PS5 Launch Proves A Mess

A recent attempt by a console modding retailer named ‘SUP3R5’ to sell several hundred black-painted retro PlayStation 5 consoles online proved to be a problem.

The units reportedly sold out in less than 15 minutes despite a considerable mark-up, and would’ve gone quicker had it not been for issues on the website. Units also quickly began appearing on eBay suggesting the profiteers who botched the original console launch, via reselling with price gouging, are still out in force.

The modder’s account posted a statement on its Twitter account (a statement now completely deleted) indicating not only embarassment over the failed launch, but indicated the team had received credible threats to their safety. As a result of those threats, all orders were cancelled and will be fully refunded in coming days.

The ruckus unfolded as PS5 consoles remain scare with only a handful of the company’s users having obtained them around the console’s launch.
