Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis has confirmed that a reboot of “Murder, She Wrote” is in the works at Universal Pictures.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight while out promoting “Freakier Friday,” the actress said: “Oh, it’s… happening. We’re a minute away, but yeah, [I’m] very excited. Very excited. But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I’ll get to enjoy that work.”
After a failed attempt over a decade ago to develop the property as a series with Octavia Spencer, news came in 2023 that Universal Pictures was working on a film adaptation.
Writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who penned the upcoming GameStop short squeeze film “Dumb Money,” were hired to pen the project while “Spider-Verse” team Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Amy Pascal were also all on board. In December last year, word came that Curtis was in talks to star.
The late, great Angela Lansbury starred in the lead role of Jessica Fletcher, a mystery novelist who lives in Maine and uses her skills at deduction to figure out the identity of the extraordinary number of murderers she encounters in her life.
The series ran for twelve seasons and saw her nominated for an Emmy every year. Universal Television produced the series, which found a loyal audience and was seemingly only cancelled because of an unfortunate timeslot change in its final season.
