Cuomo To Re-Open Some New York Cinemas

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Saturday that cinemas outside of New York City in his state will be allowed to reopen at limited capacity on October 23rd.

Said reopening of cinemas comes with precautions in place as audiences will be limited to 25% capacity and up to 50 people per showing.

While New York City can’t open yet, the country’s second-largest moviegoing market behind Los Angeles, that the rest of the state can is being seen as a victory for cinema owners.

Cinemas will only open in counties that are below 2% COVID-19 positivity on a fourteen-day average and have no “cluster zones.”

Safety precautions also include the wearing of masks at all times except when seated and eating and drinking, social distancing between parties, assigned seating required for all theaters, and key standards of air filtration, ventilation, and purification have to be met.

To date, there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 traced to a movie theater according to both the GCF and NATO.
