We’re still some time away from official casting on the next James Bond, but there’s been no shortage of candidates mentioned in conjunction with the part.
The producers have indicated they’re going for someone in their late 20s-mid 30s who will commit to essentially a ten-year role. Thus, plenty of fortysomething candidates like Idris Elba and Tom Hardy are now seemingly out of the picture.
Others have filled the gap, including James Norton, Rege Jean-Page, Aidan Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Richard Madden, and Taron Egerton – the latter ruling himself out of the running.
Now, in a cryptic Instagram video posting, actor Stanley Tucci posed alongside his “Citadel” co-star Richard Madden with the pair both enjoying a martini (Bond’s signature drink).
The pair giggle as Tucci asks “How’s yours” to which Madden replies “Delicious” – the whole scene plays very stilted and odd with the pair obviously having a joke only they are in on.
That clip has quickly led to fans convinced this was Madden teasing he was in as the next James Bond. “Gangs of London” star Paapa Essiedu is the current bookies favorite for the role.
Previously producer Barbara Broccoli indicated casting wouldn’t begin until a script is closer to being ready – something that’s not expected to be until nearer year’s end at the earliest.
Earlier this month long-time franchise casting director Debbie McWilliams said that “no conversation [are] being had at the moment”.
“Citadel,” which just released on Friday, has been slammed by critics with British GQ going so far as to use the headline: “If Citadel is Richard Madden’s Bond audition, he’s not getting the job” for its review.
