Penelope Cruz and Pedro Almodovar will once again team for the latter’s new feature film “Madres Paralelas” (Parallel Mothers) which will begin shooting in late March.
Cruz has officially signed on and will be joined by Aitana Sanchez Gijon, Israel Elejalde, newcomer Milena Smit and long-time Almodovar collaborators Julieta Serrano and Rossy de Palma.
Dubbed an intense drama, the story follows two mothers who give birth the same day and follows their parallel lives over the first two years of their children’s lives.
The project comes directly in the wake of Almodovar’s 2019 Oscar-nominated Antonio Banderas-led feature “Pain and Glory” which scored some of the best reviews of his career. Cruz also starred in that film.
