Tom Cruise’s next project is targeting an August start.
The Doug Liman-directed “Deeper,” co-starring Ana de Armas, has reportedly set a date sometime next month to commence filming on the deep-sea supernatural thriller project that is believed to have a $200 million budget.
Both Cruise and De Armas have been doing the diving training required for the project, and all were waiting on a final script polish by Christopher McQuarrie who is seemingly done with the project is ready to go.
Cruise will play a disgraced astronaut who embarks on a deep-sea mission to explore a recently discovered ocean trench, only to encounter a mysterious and dangerous force.
Max Landis penned the original script for the film which has been floating around for years and had the likes of Idris Elba and Bradley Cooper attached at different points.
Filmmakers Kornel Mundruczó and Baltasar Kormákur also were slated to direct previous incarnations.
The project marks Liman and Cruise’s third overall collaboration and second sci-fi project together following the acclaimed timeloop war film “Edge of Tomorrow”.
