“Cruel Intentions” TV Series Sets Its Cast

Amazon’s “Cruel Intentions” TV series has reportedly set its main cast – one which includes one of the original film’s actors returning in a different role.

The cast will include Sarah Catherine Hook (“First Kill”) as Caroline, Zac Burgess (“Totally Completely Fine”) as Lucien, Khobe Clarke (“Yellowjackets”) as Scott, Brooke Lena Johnson (“You”) as Beatrice, Sara Silva (“The Boys”) as CeCe, John Harlan Kim (“The Librarians”) as Blaise, and Myra Molloy (“He’s All That”) as Annie.

Also onboard is Sean Patrick Thomas, who played music teacher Ronald Clifford in the original. Here he stars as Professor Chadwick. Also onboard in recurring roles are Laura Benanti (“Younger”) as Caroline’s mother Claudia, and Jon Tenney (“Major Crimes”) as U.S. Congressman Russell.

Amazon picked up the series in early April for eight episodes, though it’s not clear if the series will be released through either Prime Video or Freevee.

The series follows two ruthless step-siblings who would go to great lengths to stay on top of the social pyramid – the Greek life hierarchy at an elite Washington, D.C. college.

After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Panhellenic system, they’ll do anything to preserve their power – even attempt to seduce the daughter of the U.S. Vice President.

Various attempts to turn the property into a TV series have come and gone over the years, from the scrapped prequel series that became the direct-to-video sequel to the failed 2016 NBC pilot which had Sarah Michelle Gellar attached to reprise her role and a prior incarnation of this version setup in 2021.

The new series is written and executive produced by Phoebe Fisher with Sara Goodman. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film will executive produce, and filming begins this month in Toronto.
