David Cronenberg’s next film, “The Shrouds,” has reportedly set a May 8th target date for filming in Toronto.
Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger and Guy Pearce lead the cast, with Kruger replacing Lea Seydoux, who had to drop out.
Cassel, who previously teamed with Cronenberg on “Eastern Promises” and “A Dangerous Method,” will play innovative businessman and grieving widower Karsh who builds a novel device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud.
This tool, installed at his own state-of-the-art and controversial cemetery, allows him and his clients to watch specific departed loved ones decompose in real-time.
This revolutionary business is on the verge of mainstream global success when several graves, including his late wife’s, are vandalized and nearly destroyed.
While he struggles to uncover a clear motive for the attack, the mystery of who did this and why drives him to re-evaluate his business, marriage and fidelity to his late wife’s memory as well as push him to new beginnings.
Saïd Ben Saïd and Martin Katz (“Maps To The Stars”) will produce. Cronenberg most recently directed “Crimes Of The Future” and has had a recurring role on “Star Trek: Discovery”.
