In celebration of his 100th birthday this year, and just as their Agnes Varda box set arrives, Federico Fellini will score a 15-disc box set from the boutique label The Criterion Collection on November 24th.
The “Essential Fellini” boxset features all new 4K restorations of eleven theatrical features, with uncompressed monaural soundtracks for all films including “8 1/2,” “Amarcord,” “And the Ship Sails On,” “Fellini Satyricon,” “I Vitelloni,” “Il Bidone,” “Intervista,” “Juliet of the Spirits,” “La Dolce Vita,” “La Strada,” “Nights of Cabiria,” “Roma,” “Variety Lights” and “The White Sheik”.
The set also includes the a new digital restoration of the short film “Toby Dammit” from “Spirits of the Dead,” and the TV movie “Fellini: A Director’s Notebook”. There’s also the feature documentaries “Fellini: I’m a Born Liar” and “Marcello Mastroianni: I Remember” will be included, the latter presented in its full 193-minute version.
There’s also a two-hour, four-part 1960 interview with director Fellini by filmmaker Andre Delvaux for Belgian television, four behind-the-scenes documentaries, one French TV documentary about the making of “La Dolce Vita,” the 2000 documentary “Fellini racconta: Passegiatte nella memoria,” the 2004 documentary “Giulietta Masina: The Power of a Smile,” a 2003 program about Fellini’s television advertising work, archival video and audio interviews, audio commentaries on six of the films, video essays, trailers, two illustrated books with hundreds of pages of content, and more.
