The anime short “Creed: Shinjidai,” a sci-fi spin on the “Rocky” spin-off franchise “Creed,” is coming to U.S. cinemas.
The team behind the “Creed” franchise and TMS Entertainment’s iconic anime “Megalobox” are behind this short interplanetary adventure about three young boxers. Together they learn how to enhance individual powers by connecting to each other.
The short was shown at the end of the Japanese theatrical release of Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut “Creed III” back in May. That film, though decidedly not sci-fi, was noted for its anime influences.
The short is now coming to the United States in a very limited event with the Alamo Drafthouse in Los Angeles. The short will screen as an exclusive one-week engagement alongside a screening of the new comedy “Bottoms” starting this Friday.
It has not yet been announced whether or not this “Creed” anime short will be released on a wider scale.
“Creed III” released back in March in the United States and received positive reviews from critics. It ultimately grossed over $275 million worldwide from a $75 million budget.
