“Succession” star Brian Cox has been having fun in interviews this week, not holding back on various topics and the press are loving it.
First up, the Scottish veteran thesp was reportedly a part of a post-screening Q&A at the Toronto International Film Festival (via THR) the other day and had some choice words to say about the method acting approach and those who take it too seriously:
“I don’t hold a lot of the American s—, having to have a religious experience every time you play a part. It’s crap. I don’t hang onto the characters I play. I let them go through me. The thing is to be ready to accept, as an actor. You stand there, you’re ready to accept whatever is thrown at you.
So you allow people to come through you. We’re British. We come from a ‘great tradition’. You just let it come through you. And you don’t get in the f—ing way.”
He also spoke about the future of HBO’s “Succession,” telling the Times of London that he hopes the series doesn’t overstay its welcome and as far as he’s aware it could well end next season:
“I don’t know [about a fifth season]. No one’s had their contracts renewed. Who knows how long it will go on? We don’t want it to overstay its welcome, like [Showtime’s] ‘Billions,’ that’s past its sell-by date. That will not happen with our show.”
Cox’s comments came after the premiere of his latest film “Prisoner’s Daughter” starring Kate Beckinsale, Tyson Ritter, and Christopher Convery. Cox plays a convict granted a compassionate release after a terminal cancer diagnosis. He spends his last days with his estranged daughter and grandson.
Cox is currently in production on the fourth season of “Succession” which will air sometime next year on HBO.
