Years after playing Daredevil on Netflix, Charlie Cox has returned to his iconic Marvel hero role – this time in the MCU itself following a brief appearance in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and an extended guest appearance in the “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” series.
Both are preludes to the much larger return of the actor to the role in the upcoming eighteen-episode series “Daredevil: Born Again”. It’s going to be a demanding shoot, but Cox tells Marvel.com that he has to give credit to those involved in the #SaveDaredevil social media campaign for letting him reprise the character:
“Whatever happens to my career going forward from this point on, I owe most of it to the ‘Save Daredevil’ campaign. That even when I had lost hope years ago, they did not, and they continued to campaign and support. And over the years, I’ve met many of them, and they’re such an enthusiastic, passionate crowd.”
Cox also spoke with Variety about sporting his new gold and red outfit in “She-Hulk” and how it felt to put it on for the first time:
“When we were getting ready to shoot it, they took me out to Los Angeles to have a suit fitting, which I just assumed was to make sure that the old one still fits. I showed up at this warehouse. Hanging in a bag on a railing was my suit that I recognized as the one I’d worn in the show before.
While I was waiting, there was one computer-generated drawing on the wall of some other superhero. I was looking at it, like ‘Oh, that guy’s cool.’ And then I looked more carefully, and I was like, ‘Wait, that guy’s me.’
It was a rendering of this gold and red suit and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that is so cool.’ It’s such a great homage to some of the earlier Daredevil runs. I got goosebumps thinking about this moment, putting it on and the fans’ reaction.”
Cox recently revealed he only learned “Daredevil: Born Again” was happening just a few days before the official reveal at San Diego Comic-Con. He tells THR that he hasn’t had the chance to read any scripts yet as the series is still in the early stages.
One thing he did say though, was he loves the idea of Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters guest-starring on his show following his guest appearance on hers. Cox will certainly be re-teaming with his old co-star Vincent D’Onofrio on the series.
Filming on “Daredevil: Born Again” won’t begin until February and is expected to run for the rest of the year ahead of a Spring 2024 airing.
