Australian actor Jai Courtney scored good notices for his work as Captain Boomerang in the “Suicide Squad” film, and recently reprised the character for James Gunn’s upcoming sequel “The Suicide Squad”.
Now, in a new interview in Variety, the actor says he’s really excited about the upcoming follow-up which will be quite different under Gunn’s direction. Courtney was out doing promotional rounds for his new Aussie drama “Stateless” which is coming to Netflix, and he compares the two shoots.
“I think it’s [The Suicide Squad] kind of got a different flavor. There’s a whole bunch of new characters. James Gunn has an approach to things that is uniquely his; he pulls a lot of that into the ‘Suicide Squad’ world. And I think that it fits really well, and audiences are going to have a lot of fun with it.
I am lucky that sometimes I’m making these small-budget gritty dramas like “Stateless,” and sometimes I’m out shooting big ridiculous action comedies like ‘Suicide Squad’. To have feet on both of those trains is a lot of fun – and it also means that I never get tired of it.”
Gunn wrapped filming on “The Suicide Squad” long before the pandemic arrived and is currently in post-production on it ahead of a release on August 2021.
