Australian actor Jai Courtney had a blink-and-you’ll-miss him cameo in the Robert Rodriguez-directed “Alita: Battle Angel” last year where he played rollerblading motorball athlete Jashugan – effectively a CG creation made via motion capture.
At the time it was revealed that Courtney’s role would be expanded in a sequel should it go forward. Recently however, Courtney posted a shot of himself at work and back in a motion capture suit along with the caption “testing my new pair of rollerblades” for a new project.
This has led to speculation of him involved in a potential proof of concept pitch reel for an “Alita” sequel. Then things got a little more confusing when the photo was liked by Joe Manganiello whom, days later, posted a similar image of himself in a very similar style of mo-cap suit along with the caption “and that’s a wrap! …but of what…?”. Subsequently Courtney liked that post.
Both actors are a part of the DC Extended Universe as Captain Boomerang and Deathstroke respectively, but neither actors require mo-cap for their roles. The “Alita” talk is what’s garnering attention for now but Disney hasn’t announced any plans for a follow-up at this point.
